What is the Bike to Work Scheme?

The Bike to Work Scheme is an Irish government initiative that allows employees to purchase a new bicycle and safety equipment up to a value of €3,000 through their employer. Repayments are made via salary sacrifice, offering significant tax savings .

What can I purchase under the scheme?

Eligible items include: New bicycles (standard, electric, and cargo) Safety equipment such as helmets, locks, lights, mudguards, and pumps Items not covered: Scooters and mopeds Second-hand bicycles Child seats or trailers Please note that the maximum value for electric bikes and related equipment is €1,500, while standard bikes are capped at €1,250 .

How does the repayment process work

Repayments are deducted from your gross salary over a period of up to 12 months, before tax, PRSI, and USC deductions, maximizing your savings

Who is eligible to participate?

All PAYE employees in Ireland are eligible, provided their employer participates in the scheme.

Select your desired bike and accessories from Pogo Cycles. Request a quote through our website. Submit the quote to your employer for approval. Once approved, your employer will process the purchase, and you'll receive your bike within 7–10 working days .

Can I use the scheme to purchase an e-bike?

Yes, e-bikes are eligible under the scheme, subject to the €1,500 limit for electric bikes and related safety equipment .

Are there any additional charges?

Please note that administrative charges and taxes may apply to cycle-to-work quotes .

How do I know if my employer participates?

If your employer uses platforms like Taxfreebicycle or Cyclescheme.ie, they are likely participating. You can also check with your HR department for confirmation.

What if my employer doesn't participate?

If your employer doesn't currently participate, you can still purchase a bike directly from Pogo Cycles, but without the tax benefits of the scheme.

This is the 2nd electric bike we ordered from pogo cycles. The service was fantastic the bike arrived within 10 days. The DYU C1 is a great bike. I bought it for my husbands birthday and he loves it. Highly recommend pogo cycles
Only complaint stated in specification that bike had hydraulic brakes front and back and my husband e mailed pogo to check and got a confirmation e mail stating yes, however when bike arrived only cable brakes….a little disappointing
